The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam tournament of the season and there is no doubt that every player is highly motivated to play their best tennis and start the season the right way.
Tennis fans and analysts are already trying to predict who could win the title, both in the women’s and men’s competitions.
When it comes to the women’s competition, most experts give Aryna Sabalenka the best chance.
It is believed that the Belarusian tennis player has all the necessary qualities, as well as the mentality needed to win such a prestigious tournament.
Andy Roddick also shared his opinion during one of the episodes of the Served with Andy Roddick podcast, where he talked about the favorites in the women's draw.
“I’m going to take a flyer here and take [Aryna] Sabalenka to win the Australian Open,” he said.
“I think she wins it again.”
Roddick's predictions for the men’s competition
Not long after that, Roddick also looked at the men's competition, and as expected, he singled out Jannik Sinner as the main favorite. Although public opinion is divided when it comes to the Italian tennis player's draw, Roddick believes that Sinner must be extremely careful because a large number of quality opponents could await him on his way to the final.
He especially pointed out João Fonseca, a young and talented tennis player who could pose a serious threat, but added that there are several other names that can create big problems in Melbourne.
However, during his career so far, Jannik Sinner has shown that he knows how to overcome obstacles and deal with pressure on the biggest stage.
“I have [Jannik] Sinner to win the tournament,” he said.
“The first two rounds are very comfortable,” he said.
“I think if you’re Sinner, all you want to do is avoid people who have something that can bother you.
There can be really, really good players that don’t have an elite skill to rip your head off with."- he concluded.
