Indian maestro Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has once again praised the Indian batter for having scored a majestic century against New Zealand in the third ODI. He has reflected that it was a display of Virat Kohli’s tremendous form in the 50-over format.
The childhood coach, however, pointed out that Kohli’s innings was not only an innings of individual glory but was a selfless display from the Indian great who has reached the twilight years of his career.
“He played a brilliant innings yesterday and showed what kind of form he is in. Unfortunately, he couldn’t win the match for India because too many wickets fell. The way he played for his team and country is commendable,” Rajkumar Sharma was quoted as saying to ANI.
Virat Kohli’s massive record against New Zealand
Despite having failed to take India over the line to a win in the series-deciding match in Indore, legendary cricketer Virat Kohli provided hope for the Men in Blue until he was there in the crease. He was ultimately dismissed for 124 runs off 108 balls, with 46 runs short of the target.
Virat scored his seventh ODI century against New Zealand in 36 innings for India, which remains the highest by any batter against the Kiwis. The Kiwis have, however, been a very challenging opposition for the Kiwis.
Also adding up all three formats of international cricket, he flaunts an extensive record against the nation with 10 centuries. He now officially has the most hundreds against the Blackcaps.
Virat surpassed the former Australian batter in the great international record
Virat Kohli had already gone past the former Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara in the list of highest run-getters in international cricket to take the second spot after Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli broke several records held by Australian great Ricky Ponting throughout his career and now has another one under his sleeve. He surpassed Australian legend Ricky Ponting, who had a total of 12,655 runs in his career at no. 3.
Virat Kohli now has 12,676 runs in 244 matches batting at no. 3 and has averaged over 61.53 in the position. He also had 47 centuries and 67 fifties with a best score of 183.
