Travis Pastrana back to Daytona for NASCAR truck race during Speedweek

America’s pre-eminent real-life action hero is returning to Daytona, and this time he’ll be back in a truck.

Travis Pastrana announced Tuesday he’s entering NASCAR’s Feb. 13 Truck Series season-opener at Daytona International Speedway. The 42-year-old X Games star will drive the No. 42 Chevy Silverado for Niece Motorsports.

It’s just another chapter in the never-dull life of the man who has successfully competed in motocross, supercross, rally racing and powerboats, as well as mixing in the occasional stunt show — this includes once jumping out of an airplane … without a parachute (yes, he eventually latched onto a fellow chute-wearing skydiver on the way down).

Travis Pastrana wasn’t just a fan favorite at the 2023 Daytona 500. He actually finished 11th in the Great American Race.

Pastrana is no stranger to NASCAR, the Truck Series or Daytona. Along with running a handful of Truck Series races, he competed full-time in the 2013 Xfinity Series for Jack Roush, posting four top-10 finishes in 33 starts.

Three years ago, Pastrana came to Daytona as a wild-card entry for the Daytona 500 and turned heads with a respectable 11th-place finish.

He won’t be the only famous visitor to the Truck Series at Daytona. Last week, Tony Stewart announced he’ll return to NASCAR for the first time since 2016. He’ll drive a Ram as part of Dodge’s return to the sport this year.
