Jan. 20—MITCHELL — For the third consecutive week, the Dakota Wesleyan University basketball programs swept the Great Plains Athletic Conference defensive player of the week awards, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Avery Broughton earned the honor on the women’s side this week for the second-straight time, while Randy Rosenquist Jr. collected his third award in a row on the men’s side.

Rosenquist, a 6-foot junior guard from North Sioux City, recorded his second and third consecutive double-doubles in a pair of wins over Waldorf on Jan. 14 and Concordia on Sunday, Jan. 18, both at the Corn Palace. Rosenquist had 12 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block against the Warriors, while backing it up with 13 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals against the Bulldogs.
On the year, Rosenquist is averaging 13.4 points, 7.2 rebounds — good for No. 3 in the conference — 3.6 assists and a GPAC-best 3.1 steals per game. This is Rosenquist’s fourth GPAC defensive player of the week honor in the 2025-26 season.
Broughton, a junior guard from Corsica, offered six rebounds and five blocks in a win against Waldorf Jan. 14, which falls just one block shy of tying the single-game program record. She also exploded for 23 points, nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block in a win against the No. 10-ranked Concordia Bulldogs on Sunday, Jan. 18.
For the season, Broughton is averaging 13.5 points, 8.5 rebounds — good for No. 2 in the conference — 2.3 assists and a GPAC-leading 2.2 blocks per game.

It’s the fourth time in six weeks that the DWU women have had the GPAC defensive player of the week, and the third award for Broughton. Shalayne Nagel was honored on Jan. 5.
Both Tiger teams are in action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at GPAC rival Morningside in Sioux City, Iowa.
