Just when you thought the Virginia Tech Hokies were finished adding players, head coach James Franklin struck again on Monday. Colorado EDGE Samuel Okunlola revealed he was the latest transfer heading to Blacksburg.
Okunlola is a 6-foot-4, 250-pound EDGE from Brockton, Massachusetts, who has spent the past two years at Colorado after beginning his career at Pitt. Okunlola redshirted his first season at Pitt before playing in 11 games in 2023, recording 18 tackles, including six for loss and five sacks. He transferred to Colorado ahead of the 2024 season.

In his first season with the Buffaloes, Okunlola appeared in 13 games, recording 30 tackles, including 7 for loss and 3 sacks. He only played in one game in 2025 before suffering a shoulder injury that cost him the remainder of the season.
Okunlola was viewed as a draftable EDGE prospect over the last two years. The Hokies are adding him after losing Kamauryn Morgan before he could enroll. Morgan, a 4-star transfer from Baylor, did not enroll due to an admissions issue.
Okunlola is one of six EDGE commitments for the Hokies in the transfer portal as Franklin and Brent Pry sought to completely revamp the defensive line. Okunlola, if healthy, will figure into Virginia Techβs two-deep in 2026 and was an outstanding addition this late.

The NCAA transfer portal closed on January 16, but players who entered on or before the 16th can still announce their commitment to another school.
