1/22 Big Ten Basketball Preview: Wisconsin at Penn State

by

The season carries on tonight with just one Big Ten game as Wisconsin heads east to face Penn State. Let’s take a look at the upcoming action.

Wisconsin Badgers at Penn State Nittany Lions

Wisconsin heads out on the road tonight to face Penn State in a game they need to win to keep pace with the top of the Big Ten. The Badgers have a relatively soft schedule upcoming, with home games against USC, Minnesota and Ohio State set to close out the month. If Wisconsin takes care of business they could easily be 9-2 by the time they travel to Bloomington to face Indiana next month.

Penn State has lost their last five games and gone 0-7 in league play. They’ve played several good Big Ten teams close, including a two point loss to Michigan. Last time out was a rough day as the Terps shot around 60% in the first half on their way to 96 points and a 23 point win. The Nittany Lions defense has been rough all season and now will face a team that has scored at least 80 points in five of the past seven games. If the Nittany Lions can’t clean up their defensive issues the Badgers should be more than capable of dropping 80 once again.

Penn State plays better on their home court but their defense has kept them from landing several upsets. The offense limits turnovers and is shooting 47.3% from the field, but struggles from range and averages 76.8 points per game. The return of Kayden Mingo is a plus but until the defense improves it’s going to be difficult to pick up wins against the top of the conference.

Pick: Wisconsin
