Mirra Andreeva answers if she could stop representing Russia

by

Krasnoyarsk-born Mirra Andreeva claims she has never thought about changing her nationality and also shares that she also hasn't received any offers to do so.

As you probably know, Russia lost a couple of female tennis players last year.

It all started in the spring when Daria Kasatkina – who had been one of the biggest names in Russian tennis for years – decided to start representing Australia. In late 2025, Anastasia Potapova switched to Austria, while Polina Kudermetova, Kamilla Rakhimova and Maria Timofeeva are all representing Uzbekistan now.

Naturally, it led to the public wondering if Andreva – the biggest name in Russian female tennis at the moment – could do the same. The same question was posed for another Russian youngster, Diana Shnaider.

Now, at the Australian Open, Andreeva was directly asked about it. And it seems that she no intention of ever representing a different country.

Andreeva: I haven't even thought about changing my nationality

“I haven’t even thought about it, I’ve heard and seen it lately, especially about Kasatkina and how she changed her citizenship. Many players have switched, but I’m going to keep playing as I am, I haven’t had any offers or anything like that, so for now, I’ll continue as is. It doesn’t bring any extra pressure for me; I’m just doing my thing on the court. I focus on how to improve and be a better tennis player," the 18-year-old WTA star said at the Australian Open.

After a couple of Russian-born players switched their nationality in 2025, Russian Tennis Federation President Shamil Tarpischev was asked if he feared that Andreeva and Shnaider could do the same. Tarpischev confidently stated that there was no reason to have any fears in that regard because it simply wouldn't happen.

Andreeva was named the Russian tennis player of the year for 2025 in her country.
