The 2026 transfer portal cycle just ended, which means Iowa can turn its attention back to high school recruiting, and its 2027 class in particular.
The Hawkeyes currently have three commits in their 2027 class. Linebacker Gavin Stecker, tight end Jaxx DeJean, and linebacker Braylon Bingham are all three-star prospects, according to 247Sports. It’s a great start to the class, especially so early on in the process. Kirk Ferentz and his staff continued to work on that class on Wednesday, when they offered a talented running back.

Three-star running back prospect Kelvin Morrison took to X on Wednesday to announce that he’s received an official offer from Iowa.
Morrison is from Hermitage, Pennsylvania, and attends Hickory High School. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound back has already drawn a ton of interest from around the country, holding offers from Miami (FL), Ohio State, Tennessee, and Missouri, among other Power Four schools. Iowa is the ninth school to offer Morrison so far.
Morrison’s high school production makes it so easy to see why he’s such a coveted prospect in the 2027 class. Last season, as a junior, Morrison ran for 1,645 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaging 9.5 yards per carry. Across three varsity high school seasons, he has 3,879 rushing yards, 49 rushing touchdowns, and averages nine yards per carry. He also has 27 receptions for 408 yards and six touchdowns, showcasing a dual-threat ability.

Landing Morrison would give Iowa some insurance in a strong running back room. Kamari Moulton, Xavier Williams, Nathan McNeil, and LJ Phillips Jr. all have multiple years of eligibility remaining. If Morrison were to commit, he would arrive on campus to join a room where he could learn from some great backs and get playing time relatively quickly.
Iowa football has a legacy of churning out great running backs, and they’re hoping that Morrison will join that list.
