Headings’ recruitment has taken multiple turns over the last two months.

Headings was originally committed to North Dakota, then flipped to the Hawkeyes in December, accepting a preferred walk-on opportunity. The 6-foot-2 200-pounder was set to join the Hawkeyes as a defensive back in the 2026 recruiting class. But Headings has now reversed course and gone back to his initial plan to play for North Dakota.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity Iowa gave me and appreciate the coaching staff, but this decision is what’s best for me and my future,” Headings posted via social media.

Headings had a stellar senior campaign for the Trojans in 2025, tallying 56 receptions for 1,202 yards and 13 touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, Headings ranked third on the team in tackles with 46.5 and also posted 7.5 tackles for loss.

Even without Headings, West High still has two players in Iowa’s 2026 recruiting class — Julian Manson and Colin Whitters. Manson is the top-ranked player in the state’s 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Meanwhile, Whitters is a 3-star offensive lineman.
