Anita Gastaldi Lowers 10-Year 200 Fly Meet Mark In Geneva; Clean Sweeps for Angiolini & Corbeau
Anita Gastaldi lowered the 10-year meet record in the 200 fly as the Geneva International Challenge wrapped up.
The Italian was neck and neck with Laura Cabanes Garzas at halfway as the Spaniard edged ahead at the final turn.
Gastaldi responded down the last 50 to come home in 2:10.45 ahead of Cabanes Garzas (2:10.74) and her fellow Spaniard Alba Vazquez Ruiz (2:14.00).
The first two women went inside the 2:10.78 standard that had stood to Hungarian five-time Olympian Zsuzsanna Jakabos since January 2016.
It concluded a fine meet for Gastaldi who opened her campaign with a championship record in the 200IM. She claimed the 50 back and 100 fly titles before her fourth gold on the final day.
Angiolini & Corbeau Claim Breaststroke Clean Sweeps

Her fellow Italian Lisa Angiolini also wrapped up a fine campaign with victory in the 100m breaststroke. She led throughout to win in 1:07.14 to enjoy a winning margin of 2.5secs over Lucrezia Mancini who got her third silver behind Angiolini in 1:09.43. Anna Pirovano was third in 1:09.82.
With victory Angiolini claimed a hat-trick of breaststroke wins that also featured meet records in the 50 (30.81) and 200 (2:24.86).
Caspar Corbeau also completed a sweep of the breaststroke events with a 1:00.19 victory in the 100. Andrea Prapugicu (1:01.61) and Gabriele Garzia (1:01.96) were second and third.
Diogo Ribeiro added the 50 free title to his 50 fly crown, the Portuguese stopping the clock at 22.38. Abdelrahman Elaraby took second in 22.45 with Youssef Tarek Ramadan third (22.85).
Anna Santamans took the women’s dash in 25.58 followed by Florine Gaspard (25.72) and Ema Jeronimo Conceicao (25.80).
Roman Mityukov didn’t appear for the 100 back final after heading prelims in 54.18. Ivan Martinez Sota won the title in 55.70 with Federica Toma claiming the women’s crown in 1:01.53.
Isak Fernandez Rodrigo added the men’s 200 fly title to his 100 silver in 1:59.71.
Freddie Ashley-Sparks took the men’s 200 free in 1:50.29 with Francisca Soares Martins adding the four-length title to her 400 victory in 2:00.79.
