MMA retirements never last long, and Dustin Poirier may end his soon.
On Saturday night, Justin Gaethje battered Paddy Pimblet in the main event of UFC 324, claiming an interim lightweight title. Gaethje is now expected to unify his belt with undisputed champion Ilia Topuria sometime later this year, but after that, maybe heโll get an opportunity for a trilogy bout with his greatest rival.

After Gaethjeโs win on Saturday, former UFC fighter Josh Thomson called for Poirier to end his retirement to settle things with Gaethje once and for all, and โThe Diamondโ is up for that.
Poirier and Gaethje had a memorable pair of fights in the UFC, with Poirier winning their first encounter by TKO in 2018, and Gaethje getting his revenge with a knockout in 2023, claiming the โBMFโ title in the process. Poirier for three more times after that loss, but retired from MMA in July after losing his trilogy bout to Max Holloway at UFC 318.
