Five-star running back recruit Kemon Spell has been predicted to commit to the Penn State Nittany Lions over the Georgia Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Spell is the No. 1 ranked running back in the class of 2027.

The 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back plays high school football for McKeesport High School in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. The elite recruit is ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the 2027 cycle and the best recruit in Pennsylvania.

Spell was committed to Penn State from Aug. 2024 to Oct. 2025. He backed off his commitment to the Nittany Lions after they fired head coach James Franklin. Spell excluded Penn State from the top-five he released in December, but the Nittany Lions and new head coach Matt Campbell appear to be making progress for the top in-state recruit. Spell planned to visit Penn State for the Jan. 24-25 weekend.

Spell’s outstanding high school career has earned him national recognition. Other teams to watch for the five-star running back include Miami, USC and Ohio State. This trio all made his top-five along with Georgia and Notre Dame.

The McKeesport star has outstanding agility and runs with excellent balance. During his sophomore season in 2024, he posted over 1,600 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns.
