Eagles’ OC tracker: Updated look at who’s in the mix and who’s out

by

Nick Sirianni’s team was one-and-done in the playoffs and is now full throttle into an offseason filled with questions, a new offensive coordinator, and potential trades. After firing Kevin Patullo three weeks ago, the Eagles‘ search for a new playcaller has officially gotten underway, with several candidates who’ve been interviewed and several more to come.

With the process clearly set to continue and the Eagles demonstrating patience and diligence, we’re updating it.

Brian Daboll and Mike McDaniel were among the Eagles’ top OC targets

The Athletic’s Dianni Rusinni initially reported that Former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and former Giants head coach Brian Daboll were at the top of the Eagles’ list of OC Candidates. McDaniel chose to take an elite play-calling job over a mediocre head-coaching job. Daboll was rumored to be headed to the Titans if he couldn’t land a head-coaching gig.

Weis Jr.’s Rebel offense broke nearly every imaginable Ole Miss record in 2024, which ended with program records in total offense (6,845), yards per play (7.3), passing yards (4,561), and passing yards per game (350.8). Ole Miss’ passing offense was among the best in the nation, leading the FBS in passing efficiency (176.6) while also leading the SEC in total offense (526.5 ypg, FBS No. 2), passing offense (350.8 ypg, FBS No. 2), scoring offense (38.6 ppg, FBS No. 3), yards per completion (15.5, FBS No. 4) and completion percentage (68.0, FBS No. 8). For his efforts, Weis Jr. won the Graphite Award for best SEC Offensive Playcaller.

Weis helped develop New York Giants first-round pick Jaxson Dart, and he turned Trinidad Chambliss into a potential first-round pick while overseeing the Rebels’ top-ranked offense in 2025.

Update:

Weis Jr. has since pulled his name from consideration and will stay at Ole Miss.

Eagles interviewed Falcons OC Zac Robinson

Adam Schefter reported that former Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson was the first coach to interview for the job. Another coach from the Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan school of thought, Robinson took the OC job in Tampa.

He previously worked with the Eagles in 2021 as a consultant after being fired by the Lions. Sirianni and Cooter worked together in Kansas City back in 2012, when he was the Chiefs’ wide receivers coach, and Cooter was a quality control coach who helped Sirianni coach wideouts.

Cooter, 38, got his start coaching in the NFL with the Colts as an offensive assistant under former head coach Jim Caldwell for three seasons (2009-2011).

Kafka was once a backup quarterback for the Eagles before joining Andy Reid’s coaching staff and developing into one of the NFL’s bright young minds. Kafka started his ascent as a Northwestern University offensive graduate assistant in 2016. Kafka joined Andy Reid’s staff in 2017 as the offensive quality control coach, before being named quarterbacks coach in 2018. In 2020, he was named passing game coordinator in Kansas City before joining Brian Daboll in New York as offensive coordinator. — He still could be a name to watch.

The big fish is soon to land, as the Eagles were expected to interview former Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll for their offensive coordinator position. Daboll has coached Jalen Hurts (Alabama) and landed the Giants‘ head coaching position in 2022 after four seasons in Buffalo as the Bills‘ offensive coordinator. Daboll has been credited with helping develop MVP quarterback Josh Allen, who struggled with accuracy when drafted out of Wyoming in 2018. In his third season as coordinator, in 2020, Daboll helped the Bills average 31.3 points per game, advance to the AFC Championship Game, and earn assistant coach of the year honors. Daboll is a mentor to the Eagles’ head coach, and McDaniel has been on Howie Roseman’s radar for years now. — He still could be a name to watch despite reports that he’s set to join Robert Saleh in Tennessee.

A 13-year NFL veteran coach, Slowik, the former offensive coordinator of the Houston Texans for two seasons, joined the Miami Dolphins as the senior pass game coordinator in 2025. — Slowik had discussions with the Eagles, but ultimately chose the Dolphins OC promotion.

Grizzard previously served as Tampa Bay’s pass game coordinator in 2024, responsible for third-down play-calling, leading the league with a 50.9% conversion rate that season. In Grizzard’s lone season as offensive coordinator, the Buccaneers regressed on offense statistically in 2025, finishing 21st in the NFL in total offense despite an attack led by Mayfield, six-time Pro Bowl receiver Mike Evans, star left tackle Tristan Wirfs, and promising young running back Bucky Irving.

Tampa Bay went from averaging 28.6 offensive points per game in 2024 with Coen to 21.4 with Grizzard and sank to a 41.2% conversion rate on third down. — He could still be a name to watch.

Nagy started his career in 2008, joining the Philadelphia Eagles as a coaching intern. He spent five years with Andy Reid’s Eagles in offensive assistant roles before joining the Chiefs in 2013 as their quarterbacks coach. Nagy was promoted to Kansas City’s offense coordinator in 2016 and 2017 before he was hired by the Chicago Bears as their new head coach in 2018.

Most recent interviews

In his third year with Miami in 2024, Smith helped the offense drastically improve, and Miami was one of only four teams with three players with 700-plus receiving yards and the only team with three players with 75-plus receptions. Even more important, the Dolphins consistently maintained offensive control, going three-and-out just 26 times in 182 offensive possessions, tying for fourth-fewest in the NFL. The Dolphins also ranked fourth in the league in time of possession (31:48).

Johnson actually interviewed for the job following the 2023 season when Brian Johnson was fired.

Under his direction, Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud put together one of the greatest seasons ever by a first-year signal caller, throwing for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns against five interceptions in 15 games.

Stroud led the NFL in passing yards per game (273.9).

Names to watch

Davis Webb

Another former NFL quarterback-turned-coach, Webb was ironically coached by Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech before spending several years in the NFL as a backup and practice squad player. Webb turned to coaching in 2023 as the quarterbacks coach on Sean Payton’s staff in Denver. Webb became Denver’s offensive passing game coordinator and QBs coach. His work with Bo Nix has made him a name to watch during the hiring cycle. Webb has already interviewed for the Ravens’ head coaching job, but could fast-track his 2027 potential by getting the Eagles over the hump offensively.

Joe Brady

Brady is used to coaching high-profile quarterbacks, such as Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. This season, Buffalo’s offense was third in offensive EPA (94.6), fifth in scoring (27.3 points per game), and fourth in yards per play (6.1). In his three seasons as the Bills’ full-time offensive coordinator, the unit has never ranked outside the top 10 in total offense (including No. 4 in both 2023 and 2025) and has been No. 6 or better in scoring.

Kliff Kingsbury

Kingsbury could bring head-coaching experience and offensive acumen to the Eagles’ staff. He led the Arizona Cardinals for four years (2019-22) and Texas Tech for six years (2013-18), helping to develop Patrick Mahomes and Kyler Murray at critical points in their careers. According to Dianna Russini, Kingsbury is Jackson’s preferred choice, and it would allow Minter to focus on defense in Year 1.

During Murray’s third season in the NFL, the former Sooners star ranked second in completion percentage, seventh in QBR, eighth in passer rating and passing yards per game, and 11th in adjusted net yards per attempt. Kingsbury, the former Cardinals coach, helped Jayden Daniels win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in his rookie season while the Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship game.
