Mike Kafka is familiar with the Eagles, the fans, and was an under-the-radar candidate for the team’s vacant offensive coordinator job. The Eagles’ offensive coordinator job is highly visible and one many top candidates covet, as it often leads to a head coach gig. Another offensive coordinator candidate will now be lining up for that opportunity after Kevin Patullo was removed as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
Kafka interviewed with the Eagles, but he’ll take his talents to Detroit, where he’ll be a senior member of Dan Campbell’s offensive coaching staff.
Kafka was once a backup quarterback for the Eagles before joining Andy Reid’s coaching staff and developing into one of the NFL’s bright young minds. Kafka started his ascent as a Northwestern University offensive graduate assistant in 2016. Kafka joined Andy Reid’s staff in 2017 as the offensive quality control coach, before being named quarterbacks coach in 2018. In 2020, he was named passing game coordinator in Kansas City before joining Brian Daboll in New York as offensive coordinator.

After Brian Daboll was fired, he was named the Giants‘ interim head coach and did well calling plays for Jaxson Dart, effectively using the former Ole Miss quarterback’s running skills while finding passing lanes and implementing innovative concepts despite not having Malik Nabers available.
