Another blueblood joins Ohio State basketball in CBS Sports Classic

by

We’ve got some news as it relates to Ohio State and the refurbished CBS Sports Classic. The Buckeyes have been a part of the made-for-television event since its inception in 2014. The other three teams that joined OSU through 2024 included bluebloods Kentucky, North Carolina, and UCLA.

And while it feels like Ohio State is the odd team out in this historical matchup, the Buckeyes have actually fared rather well throughout the years of the event despite a downturn in their performance nationally. Now that OSU and UCLA are in the same conference, event organizers have shaken things up a bit and started to include other teams in the event. Ohio State has remained, but this season, St. John’s replaced UCLA.

And now, based on a report from college basketball insider John Rothstein, the Bruins will be replaced permanently — or at least through the 2029 contract renewal — by the Kansas Jayhawks beginning with next year’s event.

Speaking of next year, Ohio State is scheduled to play the Jayhawks at Madison Square Garden in New York on December 19. That means the other game will feature Kentucky vs. North Carolina.
