Texas A&M receives highly favorable odds to make the NCAA Tournament

by

Texas A&M (16-4, 6-1 SEC) is just three days away from facing Georgia on the road after the mini bye week, coming off last Saturday’s 92-69 blowout home win over South Carolina. While the rest of the SEC has looked both impressive and disappointing (see Kentucky) this week, the Aggies will enter the new week well rested but will need to avoid any drop-off over the next five games, including four Quad 1 opportunities.

Yes, the upcoming schedule is tough, but first-year head coach Bucky McMillan has already proven that consistency is not an issue. The winter break didn’t slow the Aggies down after facing LSU to open conference play, leading to an SEC-leading 6-1 start, including road wins over Auburn and Texas.

Averaging over 90 points per game and leading the SEC in several categories, Texas A&M is likely just four wins shy of being a lock to make the NCAA Tournament. However, the Aggies are currently in a great spot according to Bart Torvik’s latest tournament projections, and can likely afford a handful of road losses over the next few weeks.

Ranked 28th overall in Torvik’s latest rankings, the site currently gives Texas A&M a whopping 97.8% chance to make the NCAA Tournament, which is sixth-best in the SEC, behind Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas. After losing to the Volunteers in double overtime earlier this month, the Aggies will host Florida a week from Saturday and face Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas on the road.

Texas A&M will face Georgia on Saturday at noon CT, and the game will air on the SEC Network.
