Amanda Anisimova on if players need more privacy in wake of Coco Gauff off-court clip

by

Amanda Anisimova suggests there is not too much privacy at the Australian Open and feels for Coco Gauff after the 21-year-old's off-court moment went viral.

The Australian Open quarterfinal action saw Gauff have one of the roughest outings of her career after the American sprayed five double faults, 26 unforced errors and hit just three winners in a painful 1-6 2-6 loss to Elina Svitolina.

Staying calm while going through such a rough day on the court is basically impossible. However, Gauff did her best to stay as calm and composed as possible on the court. Only after leaving the court, the third-seeded American decided to release her frustration by smashing a racket in the hallway. Unfortunately for the reigning French Open champion, that moment was caught by the cameras and spread like a wildfire on social media.

Later in her press conference, Gauff noted that she didn't want to take out her frustration on her team, nor have kids see her breaking a racket on the court. Also, she called for more privacy.

Anisimova: It was tough to see that Gauff's video was posted

“You kind of know after a few days or four or five days that obviously you see on the internet you walking around. I knew that was there so I just kept my head down and went to the locker room. There are good moments obviously that people see, and that’s fun. When you lose there are probably not so good moments," Anisimova explained.

"I think the fact that the video of Coco that was posted, it’s tough because she didn’t have a say in that. But I think this deep down into the tournament I knew I didn’t have much privacy, so I just went to the locker room. I knew I was able to just be there, so…”

Iga Swiatek was also asked about the matter, fully defending Gauff and stating that players do not deserve to be treated as "zoo animals."
