Jan. 28—VERMILLION, S.D. — The University of South Dakota women’s basketball team got back into the win column on Wednesday night with a 67-55 victory over St. Thomas at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
The Coyotes improved to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in Summit League play. The 16th win is also the most for a season in USD coach Carrie Eighmey’s her three-year Division I coaching career,

Now 9-2 in home games, USD got 63 of its 67 points from its starting five, led by 20 points from Angelina Robles on 7-of-9 shooting, which helped send the Coyotes to a 42-21 halftime lead.
With Patience Williams out of the lineup Wednesday night, Josie Hill earned her first start as a Coyote. She totaled 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 30 minutes. Elise Turrubiates totaled 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, and Jenna Hopp had 10 points and six rebounds for USD.
The Coyotes shot 43.3% from the field, including 6-of-17 from three, in the win. South Dakota’s No. 3-ranked field goal percentage defense in the NCAA (33.0%) held the Tommies (10-12, 3-5 Summit) to just 31.6% from the field and 19.2% (5-of-26) from three.
Bouncing back after a road loss at North Dakota State last weekend, the Coyotes now host rival South Dakota State at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
