Auburn women’s basketball dropped a tough one to No. 3 South Carolina on Thursday, but the Tigers and head coach Larry Vickers received a pat on the back from one of the game’s legendary coaches.
Following Thursday’s game at Neville Arena, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley complimented the Tigers’ knack for forcing South Carolina’s decision-making and how quickly Vickers has developed the roster in such a short time.

“They play hard, every second and every minute. That has to be an imprint of your program,” Staley said Thursday. “Coach (Vickers) is a great coach. I think he’s well ahead of the curve.”
In Auburn’s 81-51 loss to the Gamecocks, Syriah Daniels led the team in points off the bench with 11; she was followed by Harissoum Coulibaly’s 10-point outing. It was Daniels’ first double-digit scoring game in SEC play, and her first reaching the line since scoring 14 points in Auburn’s 68-52 win over Middle Tennessee on Dec. 16. Vickers praised Daniels for taking advantage of her open looks during the game.
“Syriah did a really good job,” Vickers said postgame. “She’s been in a really good groove these last three games. When she got some good looks today, she knocked them down.”
Auburn drops to 13-9 overall, and 2-6 in SEC play. Next up for the Tigers is a neutral-site game with the Ole Miss Rebels at Legacy Arena in Birmingham on Monday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+ and will be aired live on the Auburn Sports Network.
