AUBURN, Ala. — South Carolina women’s basketball freshman guard Agot Makeer was subbed out of the first quarter by the 6:18 mark and never returned as South Carolina beat Auburn 81-51 on Jan. 29.

“No (status update), she’s in pain and that’s a bummer but we’ll get her back home and get her checked out,” South Carolina coach Dawn Staley said.

She was making her second straight start for the No. 3 Gamecocks (20-2, 6-1 SEC).

Makeer didn’t return to the bench by the end of the first quarter. But shortly after the second quarter started, she walked in with what looked like some type of wrap or heating pad on her thigh or hip, sitting on the bench still in her uniform.

Makeer made a layup in transition with 8:58 left in the first quarter and was fouled, making her free throw.

She played until the Tigers (13-8, 2-5) called a timeout, but sophomore guard Maddy McDaniel had been waiting at the scorers table to check in for her for at least a minute before.

Those three points were the only ones she scored in the four minutes she played. Makeer came into the game averaging 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

South Carolina has a road game on Feb. 2 against Texas A&M, which gives Makeer an extra day of recovery.

The SEC injury report will publish ahead of the game and again an hour before tipoff, which is set for 8 p.m. ET in College Station.
