The SEC feels wide open on the hardwood this season, and even teams loaded with NBA G League‑caliber talent are finding that wins don’t come easily. The surprise of the 2026 campaign has been Texas A&M, which has ripped off three straight conference victories by at least 15 points.
After opening the year projected to finish 13th in the league, the Aggies now sit atop the SEC standings with a 7–1 league record and three Quad 1 wins. They’ve climbed above .500 in Quad 1/2 opportunities at 5–4 and are averaging 91.8 points per game while allowing just 76.7. Following a sluggish start, A&M has finally found its rhythm, with the offense and defense feeding off each other in a way that reflects a fully connected roster.

The Aggies rank inside the top five in the SEC in scoring, three‑point percentage, turnover margin, assist‑to‑turnover ratio, and several other key categories. Under head coach Bucky McMillan, they’ve transformed into a legitimate NCAA Tournament contender—and with just a few more wins, they’ll be well on their way to locking up a postseason berth.
Unlike the US LBM Coaches Poll, the Aggies are left out of the AP Top 25 but are scratching the surface with 83 votes in the latest tally.
