Chile to play Rugby World Cup 2027 in the extremes of Perth and Townsville

by

Chile has been allocated a demanding match schedule for Rugby World Cup 2023. Los Cóndores will play in both extremes of Australia with matches in both Perth and Townsville. The remaining pool match will be in Brisbane with Chile having the honor of competing against the tournament hosts in one of their familiar home venues.

Los Cóndores are in Pool A. The all-Pacific group contains Australia, Chile Hong Kong, and New Zealand. The home team will open the tournament against Hong Kong in Perth on Friday, October 01. The following day will see Chile open their campaign, also in Perth, against New Zealand.

Game two for the South Americans will involve extensive travel. Los Cóndores face Hong Kong in Townsville in Northern Queensland. There are no direct flights between the cities and Chile will have one less day than Hong Kong to prepare for the match on Saturday, October 09.

The Chileans will have a much more comfortable time moving from Townsville to Brisbane to face the Wallabies. A two hour flight will be required, this time on a common direct route. The October 16 match will be one of two afternoon kick-off’s for Los Cóndores. Like Uruguay, Chile has not been allocated ideal times for viewers back home to watch matches live.

Rugby World Cup 2027 will be Chile’s second appearance at a Men’s Rugby World Cup. Chile debuted at the 2023 tournament hosted by France. Hong Kong will be debutants at Rugby World Cup 2027 while Australia are former two-time champions and New Zealand are former three-time champions.
