Ivan Ljubicic breaks silence on Carlos Alcaraz's latest achievement

by

Carlos Alcaraz has already won seven Grand Slam titles at just 22 years of age.

The current world number one has just become the youngest player ever to complete the ‘Career Grand Slam’ and everyone feels that this champion could make history in tennis and contemporary sport.

The 22-year-old from Murcia has ironed out his weaknesses in recent months, maturing in every respect and finally acquiring the consistency that he lacked in the past. Not even his split from Juan Carlos Ferrero after more than seven years has shaken Carlitos' confidence, and he was simply extraordinary at the Australian Open.

He was under enormous pressure in the first Major of the season, both because of his breakup with Ferrero and his goal of winning the only Slam he still lacked.

Ljubicic on Alcaraz's incredible achievement

Alcaraz was on the verge of losing to Alexander Zverev in the semifinals due to cramps, before reacting like a true champion and achieving one of the most special wins of his young career. The final against Novak Djokovic did not start in the best possible way for the number 1 seed, who had the patience to wait for his moment and then completed the comeback.

Carlos is still a long way off the records set by the Big 3, but he is only 22 years old and has plenty of time to become one of the best players ever. If he continues to work hard and develop his game, he could really threaten the records set by Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer.

In a recent conversation on Sky Sport Italy, Ivan Ljubicic commented on Alcaraz's incredible achievement: “Perhaps it's easier to win seven Slams at 22 nowadays. The target has become Djokovic's 24 Major titles, which is why Carlos is still a long way off. Seven is already an impressive number, but it's a long way to 24.

From a mental standpoint, it's easier to win seven Slams now than it was when Bjorn Borg was young.”
