Emma Raducanu’s ex coach compares current ATP top 20 to ‘Big Three’ era

Novak's performance against Jannik Sinner caused a lot of reactions, mostly positive. The experienced tennis player showed that even at the age of 38, he is a big threat to the leading duo, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Although the Serbian tennis player did not beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final, some believe that he could already lift the trophy at the next Grand Slams. This, as always, drew comparisons between the current generation and the big three.

Patrick Mouratoglou ignited the debate with his post in which he claims that Zverev is a better tennis player than Djokovic, regardless of the result of the Australian Open.

However, Emma Raducanu's former coach, Mark Petchey, via Twitter, i.e. the X platform, pointed out that he focused his attention on three members of the Hall of Fame, i.e. the generation of tennis players like Nadal, Federer and Djokovic.

Petchey pointed out that Murray and Wawrinka progressed just like the rest of the top 20 ATP list during that period. The excellent performances of the big three forced the others to improve their game.

“5 Hall of Famers. Rivals making rivals better.

But so much more than that, it made the following pack even better because every week they have to play against a different style of HoF player.

If we are in the business of [hot] takes. The Top 20 during the 5 HofF era was a lot more stacked than now. Their skill sets were vastly improved by the opposition they faced.” he wrote.

Today’s vs. previous era

However, tennis fans today are somewhat more skeptical, believing that current tennis is not as attractive as before and that the dominance of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is changing the general image of tennis.

Whether someone from the new generation will manage to join the fight for the top – remains to be seen, but at the moment it seems that Zverev and Alcaraz are almost unstoppable and that they will most likely win the next Grand Slams.

However, it is still too early to give final predictions, considering that in the tennis world we are used to surprises.

Djokovic will certainly be one of those who will try to spoil the plans and possibly win another Grand Slam title.
