The news of the split between Juan Carlos Ferrero and Carlos Alcaraz caused astonishment in tennis circles. Carlos Alcaraz has been a dominant figure since 2025 and ended the season as world number 1.
It was expected that he and Juan Carlos Ferrero would dominate and win Grand Slams for years, but in December last year, news of their split appeared.

However, Gregor Rusedski is not so optimistic that it will come to that, and in one episode of his podcast he pointed out that Darren Cahill is doing a great job, which probably guarantees that the Italian tennis player or a well-known coach will cooperate with the player in the long term.
“I don’t think I see it happening as long as Darren Cahill is there,” said Rusedski.
“Because Darren Cahill is one of the best in the business. He’s done an incredible job with every player he’s been with.
He’s taken Halep to number one, winning the Slam, he’s done it with Andre Agassi, he’s done it with Leyton Hewitt as a youngster, and now he’s doing it with Jannik Sinner.
So maybe it’s an add-on, maybe they might get Ferrero as a consultant, but I don’t see him as the coach until Darren decides: ‘Maybe I need to spend more time back home in Australia’."

Rusedski went on to point out that Darren Cahill is already in his 60s and that he is probably thinking about a possible retirement or reduction in engagement.
Rusedski believes that Ferrero will probably not be the coach of the Italian in the near future, but that he would not be surprised if it still happened in a year, if Cahill decides that it is time to retire.
It will be interesting to follow the future of the Spanish coach, who currently seems to want a break, and only after that to focus on the next challenges in his life.
Ferrero had the opportunity to make great successes with Carlos Alcaraz and leave a serious mark in the world of tennis, and whether he has reached saturation or is still motivated to help someone – we will see.
