Talks are currently in progress to settle the remaining details, and officials are close to finalizing arrangements for the fixture between archrivals.
Earlier, the PCB told the ICC that it could not play the match against India after receiving instructions from the Government of Pakistan. The PCB cited the Force Majeure clause to justify its decision, but the ICC did not accept the explanation and asked the board if the clause applies to the current situation.

The match between archrivals at the T20 World Cup 2026 is very likely to be staged on February 15, with officials actively working to finalize arrangements. According to IANS, meetings are currently in progress, and there is a 99% chance the clash will take place.

“Meetings are underway, and there is a 99% chance the India-Pakistan match will take place on February 15,” sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board told IANS.
Pakistan’s Force Majeure Claim Weakens as ICC Talks Intensify
The PCB cannot use the Force Majeure clause to convince the ICC, as the team is playing all its matches in Sri Lanka without any issues. They do not have objections to the venues, which weakens their case for skipping the match against India.
Amid the growing uncertainty, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam has arrived in Pakistan. He is scheduled to meet Mohsin Naqvi and also attend the ICC’s emergency meeting on Sunday.
Two ICC officials, including deputy chairman Imran Khwaja, are expected to visit Pakistan for discussions with the PCB over the team’s participation in the Group A match against India in Colombo. Aminul Islam is also likely to be part of these discussions.
Meanwhile, Telecom Asia Sport reported that the PCB plans to place additional demands before the ICC. These include a request for higher revenue sharing and a call for Indian players to follow on-field etiquette by shaking hands with Pakistan players during matches.
Pakistan and India Open Campaigns With Narrow Wins
Pakistan are placed in Group A alongside India, Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United States. All of the Men in Green’s matches in the tournament are scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka, which is co-hosting the event with India.
Salman Ali Agha’s side opened their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a tense win over the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club. The match remained close until the final moments, but Pakistan managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
India also endured a shaky start but recovered well against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium. Captain Suryakumar Yadav struck an unbeaten 84 to guide India to 161 for 9. The USA were then restricted to 132 for 9 in 20 overs, as India sealed a 29-run victory.
