The Michigan State Spartans have hired former Wisconsin linebacker Jake Chaney as an assistant defensive line coach, according to 247Sports’ Corey Robinson.
Chaney concluded his college career in 2024. He originally joined the Badgers as a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, ranked specifically as the No. 923 player in the class, the No. 97 linebacker and the No. 117 recruit from the state of Florida. The versatile linebacker appeared in 45 games over four seasons with the program, starting 21. He totaled 174 tackles, 15 for loss, five sacks, one interception and one forced fumble during that playing time. His best season came as a junior in 2023, when he tallied 80 tackles, seven for loss and three sacks.

The former Badger tested the NFL waters after going undrafted during the 2025 NFL draft, spending training camp with the Indianapolis Colts. He now enters the coaching ranks with a Spartans program scheduled to visit the Wisconsin Badgers on Oct. 3, 2026.
Notably, Chaney is the second coach with Wisconsin connections to join Pat Fitzgerald’s staff in East Lansing, joining former Badgers cornerbacks coach Hank Poteat.
