Valentine’s Day Golf Gifts That Might Actually Get Her to Play With You

by

Golf is hard enough to love on its own. Asking someone to also love it on your terms, for four-plus hours, in the elements, is a tall order. That’s why getting your wife or girlfriend to play golf with you has less to do with persuasion and a lot more to do with making the experience actually enjoyable. I never thought I’d get there, but somehow, I did.

With that being said, Valentine’s Day, whether we like it or not, is a pretty good excuse to invest in the things that make golf feel less like a chore and more like something she’d genuinely want to do again. These are thoughtful, practical golf gifts that helped me get my wife on the course and fall in love with the game, and I hope they can do the same for yours.

1. Vice Boost Women’s Starter Set

Getting into and staying in the game requires a set of clubs. I’m a big proponent for paying a bit more for quality rather than taking the cheapest route possible. Look, if budgets are tight, boxed sets from brands like Top Flite will do the job. But for a couple hundred dollars more, the Vice Boost Women’s Starter Set is worlds better in the quality department. Both visually and performance-wise, these clubs are a step above, and, in my opinion, a great way to get your special someone starting with their best foot forward. This set comes with a bag, driver, hybrid, 6-9 irons, PW, SW, and blade putter— everything a beginner would need. My wife loves her set, and she’s starting to really love the game, too.

2. lululemon Define Cropped Jacket

When I first asked my wife to go golfing with me, she said yes, but was most excited about “wearing a cute outfit and driving the cart.” Fair enough. By now, you guys know me, I’m all about on-course and off-course style, and like my wife, Olivia, I fully believe that having fun on the course starts with looking good. When I asked her what she’d actually recommend as a giftable, nice-to-have piece for getting your wife or girlfriend on the course, she didn’t hesitate: the lululemon Define Cropped Jacket. It’s thin enough to keep in the bag, works in a wide range of temperatures, and looks fantastic. Lululemon is almost always a winner for a good reason: they make good stuff.

3. New Balance & CALIA Women’s 327 Golf Shoes

I’ve seen it time and time again: new golfers heading out for a round in plain old sneakers. If we’re setting things up for success, that starts from the ground up, and that means a proper pair of golf shoes. My wife’s unquestioned favorite is the New Balance & CALIA Women’s 327, and it’s easy to see why. A throwback to the 70s with modern sensibility, the 327 is one of New Balance’s most popular silhouettes. It looks great casually and on the also on the course. I hate to say, it but we’re outfit building here… These look picture-perfect with the lululemon jacket, and when someone feels good about how they look, they’re far more likely to actually enjoy the round.

4. G/FORE Women’s Signature Golf Glove

When it comes to gloves, I’m admittedly a Bruce Bolt guy, but my wife is a G/FORE girl. The G/FORE Women’s Signature Golf Glove is one of the most striking gloves on the market. G/FORE’s colors are unique, but most importantly, they’re fun and help make the game more fun. If we’re being honest, the blossom color is the perfect Valentine’s Day color, and is a great accessory to add a nice pop of contrast to her golf getup. I can also say that the G/FORE glove is one of the most premium gloves on the market, and will last a long while. This is a good investment into both of your golfing futures.

5. Owala 30 oz. FreeSip Sway Travel Tumbler

In case you didn’t know, Owala is the “it” water bottle of the decade. What sets them apart is their unmatched range of sizes, styles, and color combinations— they genuinely have something for everyone. The 30 oz. FreeSip Sway Travel Tumbler is especially well-suited for the golf course. It fits easily in a cart cupholder or a bag’s water bottle pocket, and the handle makes it simple to clip onto a carabiner if needed. It’s practical without feeling bulky or annoying to deal with mid-round. One thing my wife really likes about this one is the size. According to her, it’s the perfect amount of hydration for 18 holes. One thing my wife really likes about this one is the size. According to her, it’s the perfect amount of hydration for 18 holes.

6. Daphne’s Doodle Headcover

If there’s one criticism I have of the above mentioned Vice set, it’s that the bag and headcovers are black and boring. If you want the woman in your life to have fun out there, start by making it fun, and there’s no better way to do that than headcovers. By and large, headcovers are not geared towards women. However, if there’s one thing my wife loves, it’s our Mini Bernedoodle, Hayes. Dogs don’t belong on the golf course, but this is a fun way of bringing the dog with you. My wife loves hers. In her own words: “CUTE!”

7. G/FORE ChainStitch Circle G’s Soutache Twill Golf Visor

We’ve got G/FORE again because their stuff looks great and just makes the game more colorful. What really works for the ChainStitch Circle G’s Soutache Visor is its subtlety. The red and blue accents against the white backdrop look so clean, and really give this a refined look. While this looks better on the wife (everything does), I’ve often been tempted to take this from her wardrobe. I’ve been good and refrained from doing so, but in your case, maybe it can be a his and hers gift…

8. Flowers

If you really want the woman in your life to come golfing with you, give her what she actually wants this Valentine’s Day, and honestly, most days: a thoughtful bouquet of flowers. That doesn’t mean grabbing the first arrangement you see at the grocery store and handing it over still wrapped in plastic. Go the thoughtful route and get her something with gravitas. Personally, I love the Buttercream Arrangement from Bouqs. The colors are outstanding, and it feels and looks special. I also appreciate that it doesn’t include lilies, which means neither of you will spend the day sneezing nonstop. Consider this the opening move. Flowers don’t get her onto the golf course by themselves, but they certainly help set the tone. And if the goal is to make golf feel like something she wants to do with you, starting with something thoughtful and truly loving goes a long way, and that’s what a lasting relationship is all about.
