Jailton Almeida is headed down a division, but it doesn’t seem to matter.
The UFC has notified the heavyweight contender Almeida (22-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) that it plans to part ways with him following his UFC Fight Night 266 unanimous decision loss Saturday to Rizvan Kuniev (14-3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), with official written confirmation expected in the coming days, multiple people with knowledge of the situation confirmed to MMA Junkie on Wednesday. Brazilian reporter Laerte Viana first reported the news.

Almeida, 34, was largely dominant for much of his UFC tenure. However, back-to-back losses and a lackluster streak of fights result in what will be his UFC pink slip. His only UFC losses came against Kuniev, Alexander Volkov, and Curtis Blaydes.
UFC wins for Almeida include Danilo Marques, Parker Porter, Anton Turkalj, Shamil Abdurakhimov, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Derrick Lewis, Alexandr Romanov, and Serghei Spivac.
