The Oklahoma Sooners were scheduled to play a road game against the SMU Mustangs in the 2027 season, but on Thursday morning, things shifted a bit.
SMU is moving their home game against OU in 2027 and their home game against LSU in 2029 to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This means that both contests will now be neutral-site games at the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, instead of home games for the Mustangs at SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium, which is on-campus in Dallas, Texas.

Oklahoma and SMU have announced that their contest in 2027 will take place on September 11th, at a stadium where the Sooners have a lot of great history. OU is 6-2 at “Jerry’s World”, including five straight Big 12 Championship Game wins and a Cotton Bowl victory over Florida in 2020.
“We were happy to work with SMU and AT&T Stadium to make this happen, as it will allow more fans of both programs to attend and cheer in person,” said OU Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione in a press release. “While our program’s history at AT&T Stadium is somewhat short, it has certainly been meaningful, with five league championships and a Cotton Bowl title secured there. So we’re excited to be able to make this move to a premier venue that has treated us so well.”
The Sooners and the Mustangs last faced off in 2023 in Norman, with OU winning 28-11. Oklahoma is 6-1-1 all-time against SMU. Head coach Brent Venables and his team have a bevy of intriguing non-conference matchups coming up over the next few seasons, in addition to a treacherous nine-game SEC slate each year moving forward.

In 2026, the Sooners will host UTEP and New Mexico, but have to travel to Michigan, after beating the Wolverines in Norman in 2025. In addition to the now neutral-site clash with SMU in Arlington in 2027, OU hosts both Utah State and San Diego State that season. In 2028, both Temple and Colorado State come to town, while the Sooners will have to travel for a road game against Houston. Oklahoma is still looking for a third non-conference game in 2029, but will host rival Nebraska and travel to San Diego State that season.
Further down the road, OU visits Nebraska in 2030, and also hosts San Diego State again in 2031. Home games against Tulsa are coming in 2030 and 2033, and the Sooners have scheduled a home-and-home with Clemson on the road in 2035, and at home in 2036.
