Montel Vontavious Porter isn’t buying into the Valentine’s Day hype.
During a recent conversation on his podcst, the former WWE and AEW star made it clear he doesn’t believe romance should be boxed into one calendar date. In fact, MVP flat-out said he thinks Valentine’s Day is unnecessary if you’re already treating your partner right year-round.
While explaining his philosophy on relationships, MVP said that if he truly loves someone, the romantic gestures are already happening consistently — not just on February 14.
“And my take is if I have a woman in my life who I love and I care about, we going out for dinner all the time anyway. We going to the finest steak houses. I’m buying gifts just because I love her. Hey, I want you to have this — flowers. I buy flowers for my own house just cuz I like the colors and living [stuff], you know? So yeah, I’m doing that anyway just because, you know.”
For MVP, expectations tied specifically to Valentine’s Day are a red flag. If someone is upset over one day, despite being appreciated the rest of the year, he says that’s a mismatch.
“And if Valentine’s Day comes and you mad at me cuz I’m not taking you out cuz I didn’t buy you flowers and chocolate, you are not meant for me cuz I’m doing that all the time anyway. And that one day a week that I don’t do it and you’re upset, I’mma give you something to be upset about. Poof, you gone. Bye bye.”
He clarified that he’s not against the holiday entirely — he’s just not impressed by the pressure surrounding it.
“Valentine’s Day — I’m not saying that I haven’t done things on Valentine’s Day in the past, but generally speaking, I just think it’s pointless.”
MVP’s stance is simple: love should be consistent, not performative. And if someone needs a holiday to feel appreciated, he’s not convinced that’s the kind of relationship he wants.
