After his performance at the Australian Open and a visit to the Winter Olympics in Milan, Novak Djokovic has returned to Greece, where he lives with his family. Before the match in Athens, Djokovic gave a statement to ANT1.
When asked if he now feels like a Greek, he said: "I feel like a Greek, but I still have to learn Greek. I'm not very good at the language yet, it's not easy. My plan for this season is to stay healthy and happy," the Serb said before entering the hall.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, a Greek tennis player, had the opportunity to meet Novak Djokovic in his hometown, Athens, Greece. The Greek tennis player revealed that he had dinner with the Serbian tennis player, where he had the opportunity to learn a lot from the experienced player.
During the last interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas stressed that being a tennis player is really demanding and that it is difficult to predict where life will lead you. After Novak Djokovic moved to Greece, the 27-year-old knew he had to take advantage of that moment and wanted to have dinner with Djokovic.
"It's a very individualistic sport. It's really a very lonely sport," Stefanos Tsitsipas said. "And you're always on the move, always on the go. You don't have time to settle. And it's very unpredictable as well. You don't know where you're going to leave. Day by day, you're trying to see where that leads to. So I had dinner with Novak a few months ago in my hometown, Vouliagmeni. And that was the first few weeks when he moved to Greece. So I obviously invited him. We had a nice little dinner for two hours."
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic
Tsitsipas points out that he listened carefully to Novak Djokovic and was open to receiving various pieces of advice from the tennis player who achieved incredible success in the world of tennis.
Talking to one of the best tennis players in the world is definitely an opportunity you wouldn’t want to miss.
Stefanos probably hopes that in the future he will have the opportunity to meet Novak Djokovic again and spend as much time as possible with the 38-year-old.
"I was very curious to learn from him. I'm really curious to learn from his career, from his lessons that he's learned throughout his career, his medical stuff, all these things that he does. And there was a lot of insightful stuff that I got out of it. Very interesting guy to talk to on a deep level. And I really had a lot of fun spending time with him," Tsitsipas continued.
The 26-year-old also emphasized that tennis is a lonely sport that often brings difficult moments, and that there are rare occasions when you can sit down with all your rivals or colleagues and talk.
However, dinners like this certainly come in handy for a player like him who wants to improve his form and dominate in the future.
