A few days removed from a much needed win against the No. 25 Washington Huskies, the Iowa Women’s basketball team has headed to Lincoln for another important conference matchup against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
This is a game you would like to see Iowa win handily. The Huskers have a 5-9 record in conference play, including a really bad loss against Wisconsin a couple weeks ago, and come into this game on a 4-game losing streak. The Huskers are also one of the few teams that Iowa meets twice in conference play, having previously gotten smoked 86-76?8’ Carver on New Year’s Day.

But that was a different team then, playing some of the best basketball we’d seen from them. Without Taylor McCabe, the team has gotten a lot younger and the rotation a lot shorter. No game is going to be easy while the Hawkeyes try to replace McCabe’s production on both ends of the floor.
And so, what we have here is a team that even at full strength sometimes struggled on the road, still adjusting to its new reality, and playing at a weird time of day in front of a national audience.
What could go wrong? In actuality, I do feel better about this game after the win against Washington. It still wasn’t perfect, but the team is figuring itself out again and still managing to win games against solid opponents while doing it. As long as Nebraska doesn’t get hot from 3 (and they can all shoot Es), the Hawks should be able to sweep the Huskers on the year.
I’ll see you in the comments and in the postgame recap.
GO HAWKS!
