Psych Sheets Released for SEC Championships; Texas Out to Defend Titles
The psych sheets for this week’s Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships have been released for the meet that will take place at the University of Tennessee. Diving got underway today, with swimming action set to unfold from Tuesday through Saturday. The University of Texas captured the men’s and women’s championships last year, the first season in which the Longhorns were members of the SEC.
The competition will include a number of Olympic medalists, including Texas’ Hubert Kos and Florida’s Josh Liendo. Kos, of Hungary, is the reigning NCAA champion in the 200 individual medley, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke while Liendo, a Canadian, is the reigning NCAA titlist in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly. At last year’s NCAA Champs, Liendo turned in a performance of 39.99 in the 100 free. In the 200 butterfly, look for world champion Luca Urlando (Georgia) to threaten his NCAA record in the event.
On the women’s side, Texas’ Jillian Cox will be one of the headliners. The Longhorn is the defending NCAA champion in the 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle. Meanwhile, Tennessee’s Camille Spink will be an athlete to watch in the sprint-freestyle events. Italian Anita Bottazzo (Florida) is the top seed in the breaststroke events, including a sub-57 performance in the 100 distance.
