Polish tennis journalist calls fake news on Iga Swiatek-Wim Fissette rumors

by

Polish tennis journalist Dominik Senkowski says the recent rumors about Iga Swiatek parting ways with coach Wim Fissette are straight "fake news."

In the last couple of days, unverified reports started spreading around about the six-time Grand Slam champion apparently deciding to ditch the Belgian coach amid a not-so-great start to 2026. The same rumors even claimed that the world No. 2 agreed on a trial period with Carlos Rodriguez.

Senkowski, who is no stranger to reaching out to Swiatek's team when needing certain information about the Pole, contacted the 24-year-old's team to see if there was any truth in the rumors surrounding the former world No. 1. He was told that it was nothing else but fake news.

Senkowski: This is fake news… Swiatek and Fissette are not parting ways

"As I've managed to confirm, this is FAKE NEWS. Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek is not parting ways with Wim Fissette. Generally, I'd brush off the topic, but I see that more media outlets and tennis journalists have started repeating this information. We really need to watch out for disinformation these days," Senkowski wrote on X.

After ending a four-year partnership with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, Swiatek hired Fissette in October 2024. Together, they have won three titles, with the biggest one coming at last year's Wimbledon when the 24-year-old became a first-time champion at The Championships.

So far this year, Swiatek has struggled with consistency as she is just 9-4 after taking part in the United Cup, the Australian Open and Doha. After exiting the Australian Open in the quarterfinal, the world No. 2 also picked up a shock Doha quarterfinal defeat to Maria Sakkari last week. She also lost two matches at the United Cup.

Swiatek isn't competing this week after withdrawing late from Dubai.
