South Dakota Transfer DB Mikey Munn Commits to Rutgers Football

by

Rutgers football has added some more help to its secondary, as South Dakota Transfer DB Mikey Munn has decided to commit to the program. Munn played under the new Scarlet Knights defensive coordinator, Travis Johansen, and new cornerbacks coach Eric Finney during their shared time with the Coyotes. He comes to Rutgers with two years of eligibility remaining. Munn was eligible to enter the transfer portal due to Johansen departing for the Knights and South Dakota naming a successor.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Colorado native appeared in all 12 games as a true freshman, mostly in reserve roles and on special teams. He earned the starting job in training camp his sophomore season before having a breakout year, recording five interceptions, a team-high 10 pass breakups, 59 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. He was named second team all-American by FCS Football Central and earned all-conference honors during his time at South Dakota.

Munn also ran track for Windsor High School in Colorado, keeping in line with the recent trend of Rutgers grabbing lengthy track stars that they can mold into what they want. He ran a 10.53 100-meter dash during his time in high school.

With the addition of Munn, the Knights have now added four defensive backs via the portal. He joins Maryland transfer Kevyn Humes, Villanova transfer Zahmir Dawud, and The Citadel transfer Bradlee Jones. With his addition, Rutgers has now added 14 transfers overall.
