The UConn men’s basketball team is back on the No. 1 line for the NCAA tournament in the latest bracketology projections from USA TODAY sports and ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.
The Huskies moved ahead of Houston after the Cougars dropped a 70-67 decision against Iowa State on Monday night.

UConn (24-2, 14-1 Big East), which is ranked No. 5 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, rebounded from a loss against St. John’s with victories against Butler and Georgetown. The Huskies join Michigan, Arizona and Duke as projected No. 1 seeds for the NCAA tournament, which begins on March 17.
With the NCAA Tournament now five weeks away, here are the latest Bracketology projections for the Huskies.

ESPN: Joe Lunardi says that the Huskies are a No. 1 seed in the South Region, giving them a first-round matchup against No. 16 Appalachian State in Philadelphia. The winner would go on to face No. 8 Auburn or No. 9 Indiana. Lunardi’s projected top five seeds in the South Region are UConn, Houston, Florida, Nebraska and Virginia. It sets up a potential UConn versus Houston matchup in the Elite Eight.

USA TODAY Sports: A group of writers with USA TODAY are also sending UConn to Philadelphia as the No. 1 seed in the South Region, giving the Huskies a first-round matchup against No. 16 Merrimack. The winner would go on to face No. 8 N.C. State or No. 9 Indiana. USA TODAY’s projected top five seeds in the South Region are UConn, Houston, Illinois, Virginia, and Tennessee. It also sets up a potential UConn versus Houston matchup in the Elite Eight.
