Linda McMahon is opening up about how her long-standing relationship with Donald Trump evolved from WWE storylines into a role inside the White House.
During a rare appearance on Going Ringside, the former WWE executive and current U.S. Secretary of Education reflected on her decades-long connection with Trump and how that partnership eventually brought her into his presidential cabinet.McMahon explained that their relationship dates back to Trump’s involvement in WWE programming years before he ever entered politics.
“It was almost 30 years ago now and we met and he was a big fan of the product of WWE and he came in he was in some of our story lines some of the highest rated storylines. We became friends and we’ve been friends ever since and I was honored it was the honor of a lifetime to serve in his cabinet.”
Trump famously appeared in WWE segments during the late 1990s and 2000s, becoming part of some of the company’s most-watched angles. What started as business collaboration inside the wrestling world eventually grew into a personal friendship that carried into the political arena.
McMahon then detailed the moment she was asked to step into a formal role in the administration. According to her, the opportunity came shortly after Trump became president-elect.
“Look, it was a call came from Trump Tower after he was the president-elect and I went up to talk to him and he said, ‘Look,’ he said, ‘I’ve got a novel idea. I want somebody to run the Small Business Administration to actually run a business and actually understands what it’s like for business people who are starting up, what what it is that impacts them positively and negatively.’ And he said, ‘I would like for you to consider doing it.’”
McMahon went on to serve as head of the Small Business Administration before later becoming Secretary of Education. She made it clear that her experience running WWE played a major role in Trump’s decision to bring her into the cabinet.
The interview also touched on the similarities — and differences — between politics and professional wrestling. When asked whether the two worlds compare, McMahon responded:
“Well, clearly we don’t have a ring that we’re working in, but I’m really happy to be able to work now with AFPI. I’m the chair of the America First Policy Institute. So, we’re drafting policy. We have a sister C4 organization Americas, canvasing voters, targeting voters, talking to them, and bringing this election home for Donald J. Trump.”
While wrestling may feature scripted rivalries and dramatic storylines, McMahon described her current work as focused on policy strategy and voter outreach.
Her appearance on Going Ringside marks one of the few times she has addressed her WWE roots and political career in the same conversation. From running a global sports entertainment company to serving in a presidential cabinet, McMahon’s path from the squared circle to Washington remains one of the most unique crossovers in modern politics.
