BATON ROUGE – New LSU football coach Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss women’s basketball coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin got into a bit of a social media spat Friday morning, taking the LSU-Ole Miss rivalry to unforeseen terrain.

LSU women’s basketball traveled to Oxford on Thursday, Feb. 19, and defeated the homestanding Rebels and “Coach Yo,” 78-70, rallying from down 10 points with six minutes to go.

Kiffin, the former Ole Miss football coach who left for LSU in December, took to X, the social media formerly known as Twitter, to post a message tagging McPhee-McCuin talking about the fan support that she has asked for for the game earlier in the week was because of LSU being in town.

“Thanks for helping out the attendance (McPhee-McCuin) was begging for LSU (women’s basketball). Glad they showed up. Great competitive game early ladies.”

The announced attendance for the LSU-Ole Miss game was 7,424, the second-largest home crowd this season for the Rebels women’s basketball team. Some of the LSU fans in attendance held up cutouts of Kiffin’s head during the game.

McPhee-McCuin took exception to Kiffin’s post and him tagging her, accusing him of “not liking women’s sports.”

“Have y’all ever heard of a football coach, tagging a WBB coach after a game?” McPhee-McCuin said. “This guy doesn’t even like women’s sports. Cope harder.”
