Sloane Stephens and soccer star husband Jozy Altidore are divorcing.
The 2017 US Open champion Stephens announced on social media the couple is ending their four-year marriage and have filed for divorce.
“Jozy and I have decided to end our marriage,” Stephens posted on Instagram Stories. “With peace, I am navigating this transition with mutual respect and kindly ask for privacy during this time.
“Thank you for your love, understanding and continued support.’
The 32-year-old Stephens and Altidore got engaged in 2019. The former couple are childhood friends, who met in middle school in Boca Prep, Florida.
Last season, a chronic foot injury left Stephens struggling to run without pain.
Last month at Melbourne Park, Stephens was flying high again as she played through qualifying to reach the Australian Open main draw.
A year ago, Stephens suffered through a career-worst 13-match losing streak spread through 2024-2025, including an AO first-round loss to No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in January, 2025 as she tried to play through the pain.
Currently ranked No. 775, Stephens is hopeful of rebuilding her ranking this spring.
“Yeah! How shocking is that?,” Stephens told Flashscore of her first three-match winning streak since 2024 at the AO. “I feel like that’s pretty good. It’s interesting when you win three matches and the tournament hasn’t even started yet. I’m happy with where I’m at.
“Obviously there’s a long way to go since I’m on that protected ranking, but I feel there’s plenty of good tennis left. It’s exciting for me.”
Despite injuries, she has been a major presence during her recovery. Stephens served as a tennis TV analyst for TNT’s Roland Garros coverage and has worked for Tennis Channel in the past.
