Elsewhere on Saturday, Sale Sharks moved up to sixth by beating Harlequins 15-12 as Canada winger Asia Hogan-Rochester made her first start for the Sharks.

Tries from Scotland wing Rhona Lloyd and England forward Amy Cokayne and a Lizzie Duffy penalty gave Sale an early lead and, despite Spaniard Claudia Pena and Scot Jade Konkel crossing for the visitors, they held on for the win.

The result meant Harlequins’ lead in the last play-off spot over fifth-placed Trailfinders was cut to one point after the London-based side thrashed bottom club Leicester Tigers earlier in the day.

Trailfinders ran in six tries in their 40-19 victory as prop Cassandra Tuffnail crossed twice and full-back Niamh Gallagher kicked 10 points to add to her first-half try.

The result extended Leicester’s losing start to the season to 10 matches. The Tigers have won just three matches since the start of last season.

Loughborough Lightning host Bristol Bears on Sunday.
