Your daily dose of cricket!
Behind the rise of Abhishek Sharma in the international arena, Yuvraj Singh has a major role. On multiple previous occasions, the batter himself revealed how the former India cricketer helped him to grow as a cricketer.
Ahead of the Super 8 phase of the tournament, when Sharma was far away from the best, it was reported that Singh went to Ahmedabad to provide him some much-needed support.
Team India to drop Abhishek Sharma from playing XI?
India will start their Super 8 campaign on the evening of February 22 against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where all eyes will be on Abhishek Sharma.
During the pre-match press conference, India captain Suryakumar Yadav, dismissing all speculations about benching Sharma, said that he is not worried about Sharma but worried about the people who are speculating about the out-of-form batter. Yadav has strong beliefs; once Abhishek gets his runs, he can single-handedly do a lot of jobs for the team.
“Abhishek Sharma ki form ki jo chinta kar rahe hai, unki chinta mai kar raha hu. “I am worried about the people who are worrying about Abhishek Sharma),” Suryakumar Yadav replied to the critics of the emerging opener in style.
“Why are they so worried about Abhishek’s form? But I think about those teams that are going to play against him. That he has not yet scored a run. You know the rest of the answers. When he scores a run, you have seen what happens,” the skipper further added.
Sanju Samson in, Tilak Varma out?
There were speculations about Tilak Varma as well. As the middle-order batter is yet to score a long-standing knock, some started to speculate that Sanju Samson can fill up his shoes in the upcoming match. Yadav dismissed the possibility of dropping Tilak Varma with laughter.
“You mean, I should make him (Samson) play for Tilak?” he laughed. “It’s going well in power play. We’re making 40-50 runs. That’s normal cricket. Now we’ve played so well in bilaterals. It happens. We also have expectations from ourselves. “Expectation to make 220, 240, 250,” Yadav replied.
