Nineteen days.

That is it. Nineteen days until Selection Sunday and the bracket is for real.  This is the part of the season where fans start refreshing bracketology every night and players start hearing the word resume a lot more often.

Tuesday’s slate is full of ranked teams, and while some games look comfortable on paper, this time of year is never that simple.

Duke just needs to handle business

No. 1 Duke Blue Devils goes on the road to face Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Duke is 25-2 and has looked like the best team in the country for stretches. Notre Dame is fighting just to stay competitive in the ACC. This is one of those games where Duke does not need to prove anything flashy. Just win. Win clean. Do not let it get weird in the second half.

When you are playing for a No. 1 overall seed, you cannot afford a random February slip up.

Virginia and NC State with real stakes

No. 11 Virginia Cavaliers hosting NC State Wolfpack might not scream blockbuster, but it matters.

Virginia at 24-3 is playing for positioning near the top of the ACC and possibly a top three seed. NC State at 19-8 is trying to feel safe heading into March. This is the kind of game that can quietly boost a resume or quietly hurt one.

If you are the Wolfpack, this is a chance to walk into a tough building and grab something that the committee will remember.

The Big 12 is not giving anyone a break

No. 2 Arizona Wildcats heads to Baylor. That is never easy, no matter what the records say. Arizona is 25-2 and chasing a top seed. Baylor has had an up-and-down year, but they are more than capable of making this uncomfortable. Scott Drew’s teams are always dangerous.

This is what the Big 12 does. Every road game feels like a test.

Then you have No. 16 Texas Tech Red Raiders at home against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Texas Tech is in a solid spot at 20-7, but nothing is secure yet. The Bearcats, after upsetting Kansas are looking to make a last-month surge.

Later, No. 19 BYU Cougars hosts UCF Knights. BYU has built a good case at 20-7. But a bad home loss in late February sticks with you. That is the kind of thing fans bring up on Selection Sunday.

Michigan is trying to stay in the discussion for the top seed

No. 3 Michigan Wolverines is 25-2 and playing like a team that expects to be in the Final Four conversation. They get the Minnesota Golden Gophers at home.

This is about focus. Michigan cannot look ahead to Friday against Illinois. Just take care of business and keep stacking Big Ten wins. If they keep doing that, they are going to stay in the discussion for top overall seed.

Iowa State and Tennessee are in tricky spots

No. 4 Iowa State Cyclones go to Utah. It looks manageable. It probably will be. But road games in conference play have a way of getting tight in the final four minutes.

No. 22 Tennessee Volunteers at Missouri feels like one of those games that swings on two or three possessions. Tennessee is trying to move up a seed line. Missouri would love to knock off a ranked team at home. That is a loud building when things get rolling.

Saint Louis and Miami, Ohio with something to protect

No. 23 Saint Louis Billikens go to Dayton. Saint Louis at 25-2 has been one of the better stories in the country. Road wins in the Atlantic 10 matter. If they want to be more than just a nice mid-major story, they need to keep winning games like this. The Billikens smacked the Flyers at home. It could be a different story this time around.

No. 21 Miami RedHawks is 27-0. The last unbeaten team in the country. At this point, every game is pressure. Eastern Michigan would love nothing more than to be the team that ruins perfection.

When you are undefeated in late February, everyone is coming for you.

This is when it gets fun

With 19 days until Selection Sunday, every game feels heavier. Teams are not just playing for wins anymore. They are playing for seed lines, for byes in conference tournaments, for a better path in March.

Some teams are trying to climb. Some are just trying not to fall.

That is what makes nights like this so good. The margins are razor-thin. The pressure is massive. And every ranked team knows that what happens now will show up on the screen when the bracket is revealed.
