An elite training camp featuring some of the world’s top compound archers concluded earlier this week in Korea, organised as part of the Korean Athletic Association’s Sports Exchange Agreement project.
Chinese Taipei’s Chen Chieh-Lun and Huang I-Jou, Great Britain’s Ajay Scott and Ella Gibson and Mexico’s Sebastian Garcia and Dafne Quintero were invited by the Korean archery federation “to share each other’s skills and sharpen friendships” with its national compound team, according to a statement on the organisation’s Facebook page.
“I don’t think anything from their set-up will influence mine because we had similar equipment,” said 2024 Pan American Champion Garcia. “But the way they move their bow to feel it better – that’s something I’m going to copy.”
“The biggest thing for me was the volume of arrows we shot. Dafne and I didn’t shoot that many, but we focused mostly on hitting a certain number of 10s and more exercises for accuracy.”
The six-day camp – held from 24 to 30 June – combined theoretical and practical workshops on equipment set-up, shooting technique, match strategy and training routines. Sessions were held at the Jincheon National Training Center Archery Field and the Gwangju International Archery Center.
Activities concluded with special practice matches on 30 June at the 5.18 Democracy Square, the iconic venue for the upcoming Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Championships finals.
