Poll: Who Will Win the Men’s 100 Freestyle at the World Championships? (VOTE HERE!)
The 100-meter freestyle is going to be one of the most-anticipated events on the schedule at the World Championships in Singapore, especially with China’s Pan Zhanle and Romania’s David Popovici in the field as headliners. While Pan is the world-record holder (46.40) and reigning Olympic champion, Popovici recently lowered his European record in the 100 free to 46.71, handing him the No. 2 performance in history.
Often referred to as the sport’s Blue Ribbon event, the 100 free will also feature three-time Olympic medalist Kyle Chalmers of Australia and American Jack Alexy. Chalmers, the 2016 Olympic champ, has been under 47.30 twice this season while Alexy joined the sub-47 club last month when he clocked a time of 46.99. Meanwhile, Brazil’s Gui Caribe has been 47.10 during 2025 and has been building momentum.
Pan (2024), Chalmers (2023) and Popovici (2022) account for the last three world championships in the 100 freestyle, which only enhances the intrigue in the event.
So, who do you think will capture the gold medal in the 100 freestyle at the World Champs? Will it be one of the favorites mentioned above? Will someone not discussed here emerge as a surprise? We want to hear your thoughts. Vote below!
