The North Carolina Tar Heels have yet to land a recruit in the 2026 basketball recruiting class, despite having several offers out. It’s not time to panic however, as there is a long ways to go in this recruiting cycle.

And on Tuesday, North Carolina took a step forward in the recruitment for one of their biggest targets on the recruiting board.

Five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr. cut his list of over 40 offers down to his top 12 and announced he will be focusing on North Carolina, Kentucky, Syracuse, Texas, Alabama, Miami, Duke, Louisville, Kansas, NC State, Tennessee, and Indiana.

His list is filled with some top programs, including the blue bloods like UNC, Duke, and Kentucky.

The next step for Rippey is setting visits to programs this Fall, which includes North Carolina. He has a visit scheduled for Labor Day weekend in Chapel Hill, which gives the Tar Heels a chance to impress him with a big slate of visits lined up.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard is ranked No. 17 nationally, the No. 2 point guard and No. 1 player in the state of New Jersey per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
