MLB Network Presents will debut Driven: The Freddie Freeman Story on Thursday, July 17th at 8 p.m. ET. The 90-minute film profiles the Los Angeles Dodgers star and chronicles Freeman’s gratitude for his family, resilience through hardship, and ongoing pursuit of greatness. A clip from the film can be viewed here.
From his early years overcoming the devastating loss of his mother to cancer to ultimately becoming a two-time World Series Champion, Freeman’s story is one of unwavering passion and relentless drive. Told through raw, personal interviews and exclusive footage, the program explores the unique way Freeman connects with fans, teammates, and the game itself – capturing the humility, sportsmanship, and authenticity that has made him such a beloved figure in baseball.
“I’ve gone through a lot in my life. I appreciate this game and what it’s given me,” says Freeman in the documentary. “If I cry on the field, I don’t care. Whatever happens – hitting a home run, whatever it is – it’s just raw emotion. Baseball has given me so much.”
In addition to Freddie, among those interviewed are Freeman’s father, Fred Freeman, Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman, Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts, current teammate Mookie Betts, former Dodgers teammate Justin Turner, former Braves manager Brian Snitker, former Braves teammates Jason Heyward and Dansby Swanson and MLB Network insider Tom Verducci. Each offers a unique perspective on Freeman’s path to success and the relatable character behind the accolades.
“When you’re trying to build something, sustain something, it’s all about the people,” Roberts says in the film. “And there is no better person than Freddie Freeman.”
The program will go in-depth on one of the most iconic moments in MLB history, Freeman’s walk-off grand slam to win Game 1 of the 2024 World Series. On battling through the Postseason and being named the World Series MVP, Friedman says of Freeman, “The amount of work it took to get him ready for a game and then watching him leave his heart and soul on the field … it was one of the greatest acts of determination I’ve ever seen.
Following a dozen seasons with the Atlanta Braves, highlighted by a World Series title in 2021, Freeman reflects on his emotional decision to sign with his hometown team, the Dodgers, where he continues to lead on and off the field. Now, Freeman returns to Atlanta, where his career started, for this year’s All-Star Game. Produced by MLB Network’s Emmy Award-winning production team, Driven: The Freddie Freeman Story, is the third MLB Network Presents documentary to feature an active player, following prior documentaries on Mike Trout in 2017 and Fernando Tatis Jr in 2021. Driven: The Freddie Freeman Story will re-air following its premiere at 12:30 a.m. ET/9:30 p.m. PT on MLB Network.
