Carlito Says Fans Offered to Pay Him to Spit in Their Faces

Carlito’s apple-spitting gimmick became one of WWE’s weirdest yet most iconic moves—but apparently, some fans took it way too far.

During a conversation with D-Von Dudley, Carlito revealed that people have literally offered to pay him just to get spat on. While the origin of the gimmick came from a backstage vignette, it was Vince McMahon who saw the potential and told Carlito to run with it.

“That [the apple spit] came from the vignette… that I spoke of earlier. And it was Vince that saw it… and he liked that, and he told me to keep on doing that.”

Carlito explained that making the spit look good on camera wasn’t easy. There’s actually technique involved in getting the perfect mix of apple chunks and juice to show up well on TV.

“There’s actually an art to it—cuz you can chew it too little, and then it comes out in big chunks and for TV, it doesn’t look like anything. Then you can chew it too much, and it just turns into liquidy kind of thing, right? So, it doesn’t show up well. So, if you get the mixture—you get big chunks, couple of soggy chunks, and it just—you know, you get a nice little mix.”

But things took a turn when Carlito described how fans started getting excited to be on the receiving end of the apple spit. Some even wore it as a badge of honor.

“It’s weird—people were kind of like, felt honored or excited. Like, ‘Oh, I’m getting the apple spit!’ Like, oh yeah.”

Then came the wildest part—fans trying to pay him to do it.

“I get that all the time. People go, ‘Will you spit in my face? I’ll pay you, bro.’ Like, why would you—why would anybody want that?”

What started as a quirky gimmick turned into a moment fans obsess over—and apparently, some don’t mind opening their wallets to get a taste. Literally.
