World Archery is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Joan Kennedy-Kelly, president of Archery Ireland, who died on 15 July at the age of 46 following a courageous battle with cancer.
A passionate and dedicated sports leader, she held the presidency of the Irish archery federation since November 2024, following previous roles as vice president (2023-2024) and media manager (2022-2024).
Kennedy-Kelly was a key advocate for inclusion and played an instrumental role in the growth of the national para archery programme, which has supported athletes including two-time Paralympian Kerrie Leonard.
Leonard paid tribute on social media, writing:
“She was a sincere, authentic and warm woman whose positivity and enthusiasm shone out in everything she did. She will be deeply missed by all the archery community.”
Even throughout her illness, Kennedy-Kelly remained committed to the development of the sport, continuing her work with the national federation and encouraging those around her with warmth and positivity.
She is remembered not only for her contributions to Irish archery, but also as a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband Paul, their children Cody Lee, Katelyn, Chloè, Jordan and Kayden, and her mother Geraldine. She was predeceased by her father Tony and her brother Jonathan.
“Joan remained committed to the sport until the very end and her memory will continue through the archery community of Ireland,” said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen. “No words can help in these circumstances, but the remembrance of the good moments can,” said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen.
“World Archery, the executive board and the whole archery family send our sincere condolences to her husband and children, as well as to the Irish archery community.”
