- The match is a South American Semi Final. Brazil and Chile contest two matches with the winner facing either Paraguay or Uruguay to determine who qualifies for Australia 2027 as South America 1.
- Chile made their Rugby World Cup debut in France 2023.
- Brazil has never qualified for a Men’s Rugby World Cup.
- Both teams feature six replacement forwards and two backs.
- Brazil’s line-up is very different to that which faced the Argentina XV in a warm-up match. The starting line-up features nine changes. Thiago Oviedo (fly half) and João do Amaral (fullback) are the only backs retained in the same positions.
- Argentine Thiago Oviedo debuts for Brazil at fly half and Englishman Raphael Hollister debuts at inside center. Both men meet eligibility requirements via a parent.
- Carlo Mignot starts at outside center. This gives Brazil a 10-12-13 line-up of players from Argentina, England and France.
- Los Cóndores have two changes to their starting line-up from that which defeated Romania in Santiago. Cristóbal Game is out through suspension. This sees Iñaki Ayarza moving from wing to fullback and Nicolás Saab named on the wing.
- Chile enter with 8 players who also started for Chile vs Brazil in the RWC Qualifier last October. They are: Javier Carrasco, Iñaki Gurruchaga, Santiago Pedrero, Javier Eissmann, Raimundo Martínez, Alfonso Escobar, Nicolás Garafulic, and Santiago Videla.
- International competition between Brazil and Chile began in 1951.
- Brazil’s most successful period against Chile was during the RWC 2015-2019 cycle. All four of Brazil’s wins over Chile occurred during the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) years.
- The occasion will see a first-ever double-header wherein Brazil’s Men’s and Women’s test teams will both take to the field. As Yaras face the Netherlands at 11am and Os Tupis face Chile at 3pm.
- As Yaras will debut at the Women’s Rugby World Cup later this year.
- The match officials are all South Americans and neutrals. They are from Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Brazil and Chile are no strangers to each other. Regular international competition as well as Super Rugby Americas (Cobras and Selknam) sees multiple meetings every year. The Chileans have had the wood on Brazil in recent years. Friendly and warm playing conditions await the players. Chile enter the match as favorites to win in São Paulo.
